Community Yard Sale Saturday May 3rd!

Prepare for Community Yard Sale:

  1. Decide what you want to sell – Go through your home and figure out exactly what you want to sell.
  2. Don’t forget to check the pockets of any clothes you are selling.
  3. Don't sell anything you wouldn’t buy - Now is the time to throw away any unusable item cluttering up the house.
  4. Figure out where to find your display tables – To make your items as appealing and presentable as possible, ask friends and family if you can borrow a picnic table, bookshelves, clothing racks, hangers, or even two sawhorses with a plywood top.
  5. Determine prices – Determine the starting price for each item.
  6. It’s a good idea to group items together, such as books, and sell them all for the same price. For instance, place the books in a box with a sign that reads “All Books $2 Each.”
  7. Keep in mind that shoppers will be paying with cash or digital payment methods, so make sure that your pricing system is as simple as possible.
  8. Go to the bank – Have change for your customers. Get two rolls of quarters, a $50 bundle of $1 bills, 10 $5 bills, and 5 $10 bills.
  9. If using digital payment methods make sure you never give or take someone's phone to take payment. There are known SCAMS where people will send themselves more than what is agreed upon.
  10. Make sure to verify usernames or numbers when exchanging payments via Zelle, Venmo, CashApp, Apple Pay, Google Pay or other digital forms of payment.
  11. If you don’t have price stickers on each item, have a sign that says: Slacks $1; Suits $10; Blouses $3; etc.
  12. Be reasonable (and flexible) when setting prices. If you own something truly valuable, try consigning it or selling it online instead.
  13. Get price stickers and place them on your items - You can find them at an office supply store like Staples, or in a grocery store or pharmacy in the School Supplies aisle.
  14. Prepare your stuff – It’s important to properly prepare your belongings for resale, so wash and iron clothes, dust off old books, and wipe down furniture, so that your items will get the attention they deserve.
  15. Items not for sale - Any items in your carport that you are not selling should be put away or labeled not for sale.
  16. *Lock your townhouse and don't let anyone inside during the sale to use the restroom or try on clothes.
